About the Book
This book offers an incisive exploration of deepfakes and artificial intelligence (AI), examining their profound implications on society, politics, and individual privacy. Authored by law students, academicians, practitioners, research scholars, and experts in technology, law, and ethics, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of how these technologies are developed, deployed, and regulated. It considers the ethical dilemmas and legal challenges they pose.
Beginning with an accessible introduction to deepfakes and AI, the book explains the technological underpinnings that make these digital replicas possible. It then transitions into a detailed discussion of real-world applications and potential misuse, including the creation of hyper-realistic fake videos and manipulation of digital content for nefarious purposes. Contributors provide insights into ongoing efforts to combat the negative impacts of these technologies through legal frameworks, technological solutions, and public policy initiatives.
This book is both a technological guide and a critical social commentary, urging readers to balance innovation and regulation. It aims to equip policymakers, technologists, legal professionals, and the general public with the knowledge needed to navigate this rapidly evolving digital landscape.
