All About Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in India is a nationwide government’s Educational Programme. To achieve the goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education of satisfactory quality by 2010.
Background:
In order to meet the intention of framers of the Constitution, to ensure free and compulsory education for all children up to the age of 14 years, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has been national policy independence.
A number of schemes and programs were launched in pursuance of the emphasis embodied in the National Policy Education and the Programme of Action, 1992. These included the scheme of Operation Blackboard (OB); Non-Formal Education (NFE); Teacher Education (TE); Mahila Samakhya (MS); State-specific Basic Education Projects like the Andhra Pradesh Primary Education Project (APPEP), Bihar Education Project (BEP, Lok Jumbish (LJP) in Rajasthan, Education For All Project in Uttar Pradesh; Shiksha Karmi Project in Rajasthan; National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education.
Objective:
The main purpose of this programme is the Universalisation of elementary education.
- All children in school, Education Guarantee Centre, Alternate School, ‘ to School’ camp by 2003
- All children complete five years of primary schooling by 2007,
- All children complete eight years of schooling by 2010
- Focus on elementary education of satisfactory quality with emphasis on education for life
- Bridge all gender and social category gaps at primary stage by 2007 and at elementary education level by 2010. Universal retention by 2010
Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat:
Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat is a nationwide sub-programme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Children who fail to read in early education lag behind in other subjects. The programme is designed to improve comprehensive early reading, writing and early mathematics programme for children in Classes I and II. The programme will not only provide print rich environment, timely distribution of books but will also include new teacher mentoring and appraisal system.
Other similar initiatives by non-governmental organizations:
There are several non-government organizations that are also progressively working in the direction of uplifting of children, especially in the field of health and education. To name a few of these organizations, Dakshana Foundation Partnering Hope Into Action Foundation (Phia Foundation), Center for Unfolding Learning Potentials-CULP, Smile Foundation, Pratham, Project Nanhi Kali, Relief India Trust, Aashray Society, Sahil Foundation and Reforms India, Plan India, Childhood Enhancement Through Training and Action (CHETNA) and qualitative movement and many more like Anganwadi.
India is youngest country in terms of population. Children are the future of the nation and if they aren’t educated how will the nation flourish. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is one of the intiative so that every child in the country is educated and become an educated adult.
