Cellphones are the best example of development in technology from a room-size computer to handy phones everything changed.
Nowadays, the cellphone is as important as oxygen to humans.cellphones are the need for every human on earth.
With the change in time, now in many schools students are allowed to carry their cellphones in school with them. The question arises whether cellphones be banned in schools.
DISADVANTAGES OF CELL PHONES IN SCHOOL
There are many disadvantages of using mobile phones in school such as students use mobile phones for cheating, as well as that can destroy concentration while the study in the classroom. It also is shown that other electronic devices facilitate students while study at schools.
According to the study, multitasking reduces the IQ level of students. Students check their phones in the classroom an average of more than 11 times a day. That can add up to a lot of time spent distracted from schoolwork. And when students are distracted, it’s a recipe for extra stress, frustration, and catch-up time for everyone.. Students spending up to 20% of their in-class time texting, emailing, and checking social media, it’s no wonder the debate about cell phones in the classroom is alive and well.
School teaches us to be disciplined and using cellphones while in the classroom is something against discipline. Students use their cellphones in lunch break instead of sharing their lunchbox and interact with others. this also reduces the physical activity of students.
ADVANTAGES OF CELL PHONES IN SCHOOL
Ensuring correct use of cell phones in the classroom starts with teachers setting expectations for students from the beginning.
According to an Edutopia article, “Smartness: from toy to tools” teachers should develop, with the help of students, an agreement or contract regarding engagement and cell phone usage in class. This agreement should clearly outline consequences for misuse of cell phones in the classroom and for breaking the agreement.
Students whose homes are far away from school need cell phones as cellphones are the source of communication. Cellphones are useful while any emergencies occur like if a student is walking home alone in the dark and feels unsafe, a cell phone will enable her to contact someone to pick her up and drive her home. Or if a student is badly injured at a sporting event, other students can call an ambulance or a doctor.
CONCLUSION
So looking at the advantages and disadvantages of cellphones we can conclude that cellphones should be banned in school. in spite of the advantages, we cannot allow cellphones in schools because cell phones destroy the main objective of schools.
School is the place where we learn a lot not only for academic purposes. But also each and everything that needs to be known to everyone for a successful and happy life.
We even cannot go with the option of limited use of cellphones in school. Like, cellphones not allowed during class hours. Because this will also lead to distraction as students will wait for recess time or closing time of school.
